Press Release Eikos Awarded U.S. Navy SBIR Phase I Contract FRANKLIN, MA (June 29, 2009) - Innovator of Nanotube Technology based Products to Develop EMI Shielding Technology for Aircraft Windows. Eikos, Inc., innovator of highly transparent carbon nanotube (CNT) inks for conductive coatings and circuits, today announced it has been awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract by the U.S. Navy. Under this program Eikos will adapt its Inviscon® technology platform to reduce the exposure of aircrew cockpit and avionics to Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) and laser energy. The approach is based incorporating a low cost coating technology that exploits inherent advantages of carbon nanotubes transparent conductive coatings to absorb EMI and reflect specific laser energy into the laminated structure of the aircraft canopy and windows. The use of CNT allows this structure to be durable during manufacturing and use due to the unique open structure of the CNT. Furthermore, electrical and optical properties of these layers are tunable to address a wide range of EMI and laser threats. "Application of this technology is in the field of EMI and laser energy shielding of military and civilian aircraft. EMI shielding is a significant issue in commercial applications, and these coatings could find use in cell phones, televisions, home windows, and industrial environments," explains Joe Piche, CEO of Eikos. "We are pleased with being selected for this important program." About Eikos Contact ### |
